Minutes of 100 Years Ago
January 1914

THIS IS AN EXTRACT FROM THE MINUTES OF THE ALBERT EDWARD LODGE MEETING HELD AT THE MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS, LONDON ROAD,CAMBERLEY ON WEDNESDAY 28TH JANUARY 1914
PRESENT WERE: 14 Officers ( including W/M W/bro. W.E. Matthews
MEMBERS: 23
VISITORS: 26 ( including 8 members from Border )
The Lodge was opened in due form after solemn prayer at 4.50 p.m.
The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and confirmed by the Brethren present.
The Lodge was then advanced to the 2nd. degree and Bro. William Henry Blackaby S.W. & W/M elect. was introduced to the W/M W/Bro. W.E. Matthews for favour of installation.
The Ancient charges were read by the secretary to Bro. Blackaby all of which he signified his unqualified assent.
The Lodge was then advanced to the 3rd degree and all the Brethren below the rank of an installed Master retired and Bro. W.H. Blackaby was then installed into the chair of K.S. according to ancient custom.
The installed Master, having duly invested his I.P.M., all M.M. were re-admitted and under the direction of the D.C. – W.Bro. G. Baskett – they saluted the W.M. in the 3 degrees
The W/M then invested his officers for the ensuing year.
The following members, on the proposition of Bro. R. Warry and seconded by Bro. J.C. Lanysdale, were elected to serve on the reference committee: Bros. Hedges, Pearson and Watts.
W/Bro. Ellis then gave the Charge to the W/M
W/Bro. J.W. Burn gave the Charge to the Wardens
W/Bro. Vaughan gave the Charge to the Brethren.
A Charity representative was next elected. On the proposition of W/Bro. Ellis, seconded by W/Bro. Burn, and after being put to the Lodge, W/Bro. A.M. Kennett was unanimously elected.
The W/M/ then presented to W/Bro. W.E. Matthews I.P.M. a P.M. Jewel, paying him at the same time a high tribute to the very efficient manner in which he had carried out the important duties of the Lodge during his year of office.
W/Bro. Matthews thanked the W/M and the Brethren for the honour thus conferred, which to him was proof positive of the appreciation of his endeavours while he was their W/M and he promised to do all in his power to assist his successor during the year, which he hopes would be a most successful one.
The Lodge was then lowered to the 1st. degree
The secretary then read a letter from Grand Lodge , directing the following Rule to be read in open Lodge and recorded in the minutes ( Rule 150 )
Bros. E.H. Foster and A.J. Smithers were each presented with their Grand Lodge Certificate.
Letters of apology for non-attendance were received from several brethren
The following candidate was then proposed and seconded as a fit and proper person to be made a Freemason:-

Aged 48

Camberley
Proposed by Bro. King secretary
Seconded by W/Bro. W.E. Matthews I.P.M.
Under the direction of the D.C. W/Bro. W. Vaughan, the visiting Brethren greeted the newly installed Master.
Nothing further being offered for the good of Freemasonry in general or of this Lodge in particular, it was closed in perfect harmony at 6.30. p.m.
Charity Box Collection at the Banquet realised £1. 15s. 6p.
